We started quite a journey six months ago...
My husband and I had been attempting to start a family for a while. Over ten years. Infertility struggles and a couple rounds of fertility treatments left us wondering how, or if, we would ever be able to raise a family of our own.
Around six years ago we heard an ad on the radio talking about becoming a foster family. Knowing that there was a shortage of foster homes in our area and after some discussion, we decided to go through the training and see if it was for us. We were open to it, but the heartache and challenges that come along with foster care weren't something we were going to get involved in without a lot more information. We graduated from the course, met some great people, and felt inspired to start our journey to foster care.
After some hiccups and redirection through the years, we decided that adoption would be more suitable for our situation. There was a point a year ago where we had basically given up, and that was when everything changed. We were finally matched with a sibling set last year and the moved in with us a short time later.
Fast forward to today: Now here we are, six (almost seven) months later and it has been quite a wild ride. If you had told either of us a year ago that this would be happening.... I would have never believed it. We went from two thirty-something childless working adults to raising two school-aged siblings in the middle of a pandemic. Now that things are settling down a bit (knock on wood), I'm hoping to capture some of our new lives in this blog to share with family, friends, and even new parents who might be going through similar experiences. Part of what has helped us navigate these challenging months has been knowing we aren't alone and that we are doing the best we can, so I intend to pass that knowledge along to anyone who might need to hear that too <3
